Blog Post #4

What motivates someone to join Rotary? What keeps members in Rotary? The answer is the same, Service and Fellowship. On July 21 at the Fish Fry for Ghana I witnessed how these two elements of Rotary come together.  We heard the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) and the Rotary Club of Essex, who were the hosts of the Fish Fry, will have international service opportunities for Rotarians and community members as they travel to Ghana in November. We heard stories from Dr. Godfrey Bacheyie about the impact of service over the years and thanks from Fr. Bennett on behalf of the people of Ghana. President Kim Spirou of the Rotary Club of Essex shared her video of her team’s last trip to Ghana. Although I had seen the video before, I couldn’t help but get teary-eyed at the smiling faces and the deep smiling eyes of thanks of the Ghanaian people. This is service at its best!

Fellowship was at its best too that night. My thanks to all the volunteers who made the event possible; it couldn’t happen without you. Thanks to all Rotarians who attended and who brought family and friends. Fellowship is so much fun because it is a mix of getting to know fellow Rotarians in a different way, re-connecting with friends and most of all making new friends. This is the impact of fellowship.

I can truly say Rotarians are the most welcoming group of people I have met. Join me for fellowship at the next Fish Fry on August 4 at the Roma Club in Leamington being hosted by the Area 9 Rotary Clubs in Essex County. Hope to see you there!
