Joint Windsor/Essex County Rotary club met at the Ciociaro Club, where the Mega Hospital project was discussed. David Musyj, President & Chief Executive Officer of Windsor Regional Hospital, stated that “we have the 10th biggest acute care hospital in Ontario, we should have nothing less than what the other communities have”. He went on to explain that it’s a 5-stage process, and we’re between stages 1 and 2. He thanked the community, as having community support was instrumental in getting approval thus-far.
It’s now time for detailed planning. The team is looking at 3 other Ontario hospitals for inspiration, as well as DMC in Detroit. The goal is to get things right the first time, as this facility will be around for generations to come. Rooms will be mocked-up and the community will be invited for feedback. Parking will be better than what we currently have. The new facility is 1.6 million sq. ft, which is the equivalent of Met + Ouellete + 30%. Musyj stated how currently, 90% of patients go home directly from the emergency department because they were not in “critical condition”. The patients who come in via EMS and who are critical get helped first while the 90% wait. The question was posed: “How can we take care of that 90% in a more efficient, effective manner?” The plan answers this question. David ended by asking us, the community, to continue to advocate and to push this project forward. “They need to know that we want it, that we need it for us and for generations to come.”
The talk ended with Mr. Musyj paying homage to our own Dr. Bacheiye. “Thousands of people are alive because of him. Thank you.”
Many thanks to Bill Howitt, Theresa Schuurman, Randy Winters and Michael and Walter Willms for volunteering for the Bingo on September 13th. They will have raised $1000 to support the Adult Assistance Committee.
