A tribute to Ian Henderson

Rotary Club of Windsor (1918)

Monday, we honoured and celebrated the life of Ian Henderson. Remembered as a gentleman, authentic, loyal, generous and kind – the world has lost a beautiful soul. He is loved and missed by all.

Program from Monday, June 8th, 2020

The second half of the Monday meeting was presented by Jeanne Knopf de Roche, who served as leader of the Education VTT to Ghana.
Jeanne’s presentation featured a video of the construction of a village school, as seen through the eyes of a young student named Precious. Precious tells us that one day, a group called “Rotarians” arrived and said that they were going to establish a school in her village.
Until that time, classes were held under a large shade tree in the village. Precious takes us through the process of building the school and training the teachers who will work there. Rotarians provided books, art supplies and computers to help make learning more fun for children. The goal is that children learn to like school so much that they go on to high school.
Jeanne then reviewed the challenges that had to be overcome before local authorities were brought on board. Her involvement with this project started with the question, “Do you want to do something good for the children of Guo?”
The project gained an unexpected sustainability component. Teachers have trained other teachers; materials were adapted so that teachers can duplicate it themselves, a campaign was launched to build a new school in Gulpaala.
A question period followed the presentation.

We need your help - Foundation Fund
The proceeds from Art in the Park provide support for many of our charities. Most importantly, our club has contributed to funding the refurbishment of Willistead Manor. Over these many years, we have raised more than 1.2 million dollars. Most recently, our efforts have contributed to the much-improved window restorations in the manor. But this year, we had to make the difficult decision to cancel AIP due to COVID-19.
We need your help! If you were going to go to Art in the Park this year or if you were an attendee in the past, please consider contributing the price of admission ($5.00/person) to the Rotary Club of Windsor Foundation Fund.

President Gord Faas presented a District 6400 COVID cheque

Thank you so much for visiting us, you guys are amazing!

We would like to thank The Rotary Club of 1918(Rotary International District 6400 Inc.)  for your support of the food drive which we are providing to our front line heroes as evidence by the recent donation of $500.
Because of your generosity, we are able to further our mission in providing another 100 meals to the Hospital staff who are our real heroes in this pandemic. We thought you would be interested in hearing from us. We always say and saying it again that A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.
Again hundreds, thousands & endless thanks for your support. It means a lot to us and all of our staff (Team Swaad) who are able to participate in this campaign. My heartfelt thanks to Mr. Gordon Faas and Aruna Koushik for taking this initiative and making it possible. You are real angels.
Arvind Jain & Team Swaad
