Bob Fields introduced Ms. Breault, who began her presentation by explaining what Habitat for Humanity does: They "bring communities together to help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership". Their vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. The organization works in a 3-step process. First, Families help BUILD their homes assisted by volunteers and community support. They then BUY that home and pay an interest-free mortgage geared to their income. Lastly, Habitat for Humanity then REINVESTS the mortgage payments into a revolving fund, used exclusively to build more homes for families in need. In the past 25 years, Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex has built 65 houses, which has helped provide shelter for over 370 people. Not only does it succeed in building homes, it's ReStore program "diverts 400 tons from landfills every year". Breault says that the goal for the next 5 years is to build 24 more homes and revitalize key neighbourhoods such as Ford City, Sandwich and downtown.

Socks, underwear, diapers, adult incontinence products, sleeping bags hats, mitts, and scarves will be collected by Rotary Clubs, to be distributed to various agencies to help the homeless and those in need.  This year we have added toilet paper to the items being collected.

Rotarians and their families will be invited to attend the Socks and Bottoms dinner on December 11th to build a "Donation Mountain". Please save the date.
