Marty Gervais, an award winning journalist, photographer, poet, playwright, historian, editor, teacher and the City of Windsor's first poet laureate, wrote a poem honouring Our Club's 100 years of Service Above Self. Entitled "A Certain Truth", Gervais captured the attention of everyone in attendance as he read. A Certain Truth will be published in the program for our Centennial Gala, May 12th.
The speaker for the meeting, Dr. Mary Louise Drake, spoke about the community program she runs, Building Blocks for Better Babies (BBBB). This program assists pregnant women in Windsor-Essex County to have healthy babies through nutrition support and health information. The 3 locations throughout the county get approximately 6,200 visits annually. There is funding limitations, and with a boost in funds, the program would increase food gift certificates to clients, provide transportation, would add new locations and and offer a postpartum mood disorder support program.
