  • President Colleen inducted new member, Mitchell Scherer.
  • Members were reminded to keep the people of Houston, TX in their thoughts and prayers regarding the devastion wrought by Hurricane Harvey.
  • Jim Adkin introduced Chief Al Frederick, who spoke on the past 150 years of the Windsor Police Service. In his remarks, Chief Fredrick called attention to the Rotary 4-Way test and its importance in building trust. 
    • Three short videos were shared with the membership.  The first presented the early history of the force beginning with its creation in April, 1867.  At that time the force consisted of one chief and 3 officers.  The second video highlighted the current responsibilities of the 600 members of the Windsor Police Service. The third video provided an overview of officers’ training.
    • Over $85,000 was raised from their 150-year celebrations, and $55,000 of those funds were donated to a foundation near and dear to our Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) hearts, The Safety Village. 
    • When asked to explain why the Windsor Police Service has been so successful in the community, Chief Fredericks answered, “Trust is the key to success”.

Dr. Saad Y. Jasim elected "President Elect" - International Ozone Association

The International Board of Directors of the International Ozone Association (IOA) elected Dr. Saad Y. Jasim as the "President Elect" for the International Ozone Association, starting January 1st, 2018 to December 31st, 2019. On January 1 2020, Dr. Jasim will begin his term as president of the International Ozone Association.
 
Dr. Jasim serves as Adjunct Professor at the University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario, since 1996.
 
Dr. Jasim is currently serving as the manager, Utilities, for the City of White Rock, B.C. He is the Project Manager for the Design Build of a water treatment plant for Arsenic and Manganese removal.

The winner of the 50/50 raffle was Debby Grant, the host mother of Fernanda, our new exchange student. She donated the money back to the Foundation Fund for the Ghana Water Project.
