Monday, we welcomed Rose Anguiano from Women’s Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor Inc. She is passionate about supporting women in Windsor-Essex county to achieve their goals through employment, training and skills development. The organization also offers support to newcomers and immigrants with their settlement into our community.

Rose is grateful for the support of their community partners like the University of Windsor and St. Clair College because it gives credibility to the organization and those they are trying to help.

The W.E.S.T team comprises 50 people, offering a diverse background and skillset to build confidence in women as they enter the workforce. They provide various programs and services to their clients, including services for newcomers, settlement services, language training, Microsoft testing, etc. They are also delighted to offer child care.

W.E.S.T also has a focus on youth employment. Their programming addresses employment barriers and helps youth learn about themselves while establishing short-term and long-term goals. For employers looking to hire youth, there is financial support available in exchange for helping these young women gain valuable work experience.

Other youth programs include: Get them interested in the Seat (Science, Engineering, Arts and Technology) program. This program helps girls develop and explore their interests in science, art, technology, and engineering to make more informed decisions for their future. They’ve found this program encourages girls to pursue post-secondary education or decide to attend a skilled trades program.

Through the SEAT Program, one group was given the opportunity to host an art show at the Art Gallery of Windsor. Rose explains that it was an enriching experience for everyone to see the pride and joy, and they developed skills and presented the final display to the community.

While COVID has changed how they work, it has also opened the door for some new programs that the W.E.S.T team is very excited about!

We’re proud to see the work that W.E.S.T is doing in Windsor-Essex to support women. Not only do they help women connect with employers upon the completion of their programs, but many of them are fortunate to become W.E.S.T staff!
