Subject: 4-Way-Test Essay Contest

Dear Fellow Governors,

I am Jim Ives, Centennial Governor from District 6400. A very devoted Rotarian in our District, Om Chandna, has been working diligently with a number of you to institute the 4-Way-Test essay competition in India as a way to combat corruption. Many of you have participated in this project in its first year. Another tireless worker has been a classmate of mine, S.R. Yogananda of District 3190. As Centennial Governor when this project was conceived, I am extremely grateful for your participation in this important project. We all know that the youth of today are our future, and if we want to see change in the world, it will be through the children. For those of you who have not yet had the opportunity to participate, I would encourage you to do so. This great organization of ours that we call Rotary was started because of the unethical business practices that were prevalent in Chicago in 1905. I can't think of a better tribute to Paul Harris than to fight corruption with the help of our youth.

Thank you for your efforts, and I would like to congratulate all the students who participated in this fantastic project. I would also like to thank Past RI Director Mike McCullough and Past RI Director Sushil Gupta for their support with this project. It is amazing to see the good that comes from the efforts of so many dedicated Rotarians.

Thank you for your leadership as we Lead the Way in our new Rotary year.

Yours in Rotary,

Jim Ives

December, 2004
Hi Don, Gary and Brenda:
Kindly accept greetings from Om in Bangalore, India.

I hope that you received a copy of my report to the Directors Mike and John with regards to the project. I am meeting both of them in Chennai, India on Friday. There is a Rotary International Meeting where many R.I. Directors from all over and the District Governors from South Asia are coming. I shall send you a copy of my report that I will send to Bev and DonJuccartz.
I have started teaching students who are doing their Ph.Ds and the Research work has also started.
I also attended meetings of two Rotary Clubs. One of these meetings was with the Board of Directors of a Club. I am attaching pictures of exchange of Banners.

"Greetings from Bangalore. District Governor Yogananda, and his team organised a fantastic, invigorating and inspiring Rotary District Conference attended by about 2000 Rotarians.
Theme of this conference was ‘Make a difference’.
Rtn. Manjit Singh Sawhney, chairman of the twin zone centennial celebration Initiative between Canada and India, represented R.I. President Glenn Estess at this conference. He communicated President Glenn’s message to celebrate 100 years of Rotary not with a sense of complacency based on past success but with a vigour to face today’s challenges. He further quoted the R. I. President and said: 100 years is an important mile stone one that few organizations reach. It signifies that Rotary is doing something right and that the need for Rotary’s service remains strong.
Rtn. Manjit expressed appreciation of Canadian Rotarians
(a) for help to light up 500 homes in the villages of Kumaon hill,
(b) for help towards solar power energy for the backward areas in West Bengal and
(c) for help to get ‘Eyesight Universal of Canada’ involved for 100,000 cataract surgeries. "

Rotary clubs seeking assistance with a local project can register it with the WCS Projects Exchange, a semiannual listing which brings together clubs in need of resources with those willing to help. In addition to seeking funds or equipment and supplies, projects listed on the exchange are often in need of volunteers -- doctors, engineers, or just people willing to lend a hand.
