QUEEN'S PARK, Ontario Canada: - The Government of Ontario created a new statutory holiday in 2008 called Family Day saying
"There is nothing more valuable to families than time together. And yet it seems tougher than ever to find, with so many of us living such busy lives - That's why, on the third Monday of this coming February (2008) - and every February thereafter - Ontarians will celebrate a new statutory holiday - Family Day."
Adding Family Day to the calendar gives Ontario workers and families a total of nine statutory holidays per year, putting the province on par with Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.

Over $1500 was generated by this year's meeting auction for our Rotary Youth Exchange Program from the enthusiastic bidders.
What Is Youth Exchange?

Members were encouraged to bring in "re-gifted" or other surprise packages to the meeting.
This was seen as an opportunity to clear our homes of items we had grown tired of???
Here is a sample of this year's auction items.

Maryvale Adolescent & Family Services
Rotary Home for Children
Maryvale is a Children’s Mental Health treatment centre in Windsor, Ontario, where adolescents experiencing very serious emotional, psychological and mental distress can receive therapy and assistance from a team of experts.
We help young people (aged 11 to 17) and their families who feel highly anxious, depressed, suicidal, worthless and hopeless, or who have lost their willingness to care about others. They may be dealing with debilitating learning disabilities.
Maryvale's students stay for as short as 7 days to several months or years. Others attend only during the day, for after school or for weekend respite and activities.

Auto Series #5
Speaker: Mr. Ken Wheeldon
Automotive Dealer Executive (Retired)
"The final mile - where the journey begins"
Ken gave us a straightforward, well illustrated talk on the auto industry in Canada from the viewpoint of Auto Dealerships. He said that one had to invest a great deal of money in a dealership before there was much hope of a decent return on investment. He noted that the people who ran the dealerships were on the frontline for any complaints from customers about the quality of the products they sold. Ken spoke about the complexity of the modern day auto sales business both from a maintenance and financial perspective.
He listed some of the many current legislative bodies involved in new car transactions and the environmental matters that are now an important part of the business.

There was a cheque presentation to the
JMCC on Tuesday. We have now donated
$576,200 of our $1million pledge.

President Rick announced that Major Karen
Feltham, of the Salvation Army, thanked
everyone for playing a vital role in helping
them reach their goal for 2010 and further
announced that (1918) has won the Battered
Bugle Award this year.
