Welcome to the Year 2010 Third Quarter Meetings and Events Page.
The following brief descriptions of meetings and events are intended as a record for members of club activities. Where appropriate, links to support pages or links to sites related to the topic have been included. It is to be expected that some of these site links will become "dead" as time passes but we have no plans at present to refresh these entries.
The Meetings and Events Index Page contains an index to the available history of club meetings and events segmented into quarters for each year.

2010 Meetings and Events - Third Quarter

Meeting and Event Descriptions
2010 - July through September

2010 Meetings and Events - Second Quarter - April through June

Civic Holiday [first Monday of August] is not statutory holiday but is observed as a municipal holiday known as Simcoe Day in Toronto, Mountie Day in North York, Colonel By Day in Ottawa, Joseph Brant Day in Burlington, Founders' Day in Brantford, McLaughlin Day in Oshawa, Alexander Mackenzie Day in Sarnia, James Cockburn Day in Cobourg, Peter Robinson Day in Peterborough, and John Galt Day in Guelph, as well as numerous other names in smaller municipalities.. Although the first Monday in August is not an official Canadian holiday, it is recognized as a holiday in Canada in all provinces except Québec, Newfoundland and the Yukon. Every other province and territory has their own name for it, depending on heritage and the political will at the time the holiday was created.
Canadian ceremonies and holidays such as Boxing Day and the August Civic Holiday (a "bank holiday") are derived from our British roots.
This national holiday is similar to Heritage Day. It gives everyone a break from work.

‘Father Stephen’ spoke about the sanitation problems in Ghana and a program that the Roseland Club has been involved in.

Father Stephen is a friend of many local Rotarians who initially met him during a RELAY (Rotarians Enhancing the Learning of African Youth) project several years ago in Ghana, Africa. He then received additional funds (Rotarians and District 6400 Simplified Grant) and built a Pitt Toilet in one of the 35 villages he oversees. He shared information about the Pitt Toilet project and talked about other challenges facing Ghanaians in his villages.
