  Rotary (1918) member Gary Wintermute spoke eloquently and emotionally about the life of a Navy Man he knew who fought in WWII. His talk was met with a standing ovation.

  The above are telling lines from Rudyard Kipling's poem, Recessional . Kipling composed the poem on the occasion of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. The poem expresses pride in the British Empire, but also an underlying sadness that the Empire might go the way of all previous empires.
  The words "Lest We Forget" form the refrain of "Recessional" (withdrawal). The phrase became popular as a warning about the perils of exaggerated pride and the inevitable decline of imperial power.

  To develop and promote voluntary standards of business conduct, professional and public education, advancement of issues relevant to providers of travel health insurance operating in Canada and their affiliated organizations.
  
  "'Travel Insurance' means insurance against loss, damage, injury or expense caused by accident, injury, sickness, theft, cancellation or interruption of travel arrangements or other events or perils arising during or in connection with travel or intended travel by an insured person."
  
  Alex Bittner is an expert in Travel Insurance and is currently serving as Co-Chair of the communications committee of THIA (Travel Health Insurance Association) He is regularly invited to speak to Insurance Professionals and travellers alike to inform them on the avoidable pitfalls with respect to travel insurance policies.

  Between 1999 and 2007, Mike Bates was managing director of Human Kinetics Canada, a local publishing company which specializes in books on human kinetics. Bates has worked in a variety of positions in the fitness industry, including sales, front desk, personal training and management. He was recognised as one of the top sales managers for achieving one of the highest retention levels at Good Life Fitness in Canada. His studio focuses on adults and working professionals and covers 10,000 square feet on three floors of a former furniture store in Olde Walkerville. Bates is also a lecturer at the University of Windsor, teaching courses in sport management, human resource management and strength and conditioning. Bates is a regular speaker at fitness industry conferences.
  
  Bogi Vukojev & Gerry Pocock spoke about Eli Goldin and the Eli Goldin Award. Eli was a role model of our community and this award is presented to those individuals who, like Eli, have exhibited a life-time commitment to their community. Such an individual is our own Walter Willms. Bogi spoke about Walter ‘..since his retirement, he has been a dedicated and committed volunteer and has given generously of his time and talents to many organizations.’

  Canadian families celebrate Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October with a special dinner for family and friends. Our Canadian Thanksgiving has nothing to do with the Pilgrims landing.
  Thanksgiving provides an opportunity for us to look at pioneer life. It celebrates the importance of Canadian farmers for all Canadians.
  Thanksgiving dinner traditionally consists of a roasted turkey with cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.
  The History of the Canadian Thanksgiving is thought to have originated as follows: Around 1578 English navigator Martin Frobisher held a ceremony, in what is now called the province of Newfoundland to give thanks for surviving his journey there. Other settlers later arrived and continued these "thankful" ceremonies.
  In 1879, our Parliament declared November 6th as a national holiday of Thanksgiving. Over the years this date has changed. On January 31, 1957, Parliament declared the second Monday in October of each year to be "A Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed".
