    District Governor David Carpenter's Visit

    D. G. David Carpenter is a resident of Canton, MI and member of the Wayne Rotary Club since 1977.
David is the current treasurer of the Wayne Rotary Foundation and club historian. David is Past President 1983-1984 and 2003-2004 of the Wayne Rotary Club. Governor David brought a message of encouragement to club members as he spoke of Rotary as an ever changing mosaic guided by underlying principles - adapting to the requirement of the times. He said that the latest member is the most important one, bringing in new ideas, thoughts and energy. He told members that they should make an earnest effort to bring in new members so the work of Rotary can expand. He said that he could not sleep at night if he did not make an effort to make someone's life a little bit better.
The Governor invited everyone to attend the District Conference on , May 31-June 3, 2007 in Grand Rapids.

Overall, even though it took me a really long time to get used to living in Japan and be happy – I did do it. I learned to love Japan and its culture and people and I felt like it was my new home. I learned, observed, and experienced so much and I now have such a great respect for Japan. They have such a rich history which is still evident in their culture today. I also really admire the people. They are so generous and kind-hearted and they have this unbelievable perseverance that I wish I had more of.
Being on exchange has made me realize that everyone, despite our culture and race and language, is the same. We all have the same basic human needs and we all generally travel through the same stages in our life. It makes me want to learn more about the world and reach out to those in need and help people realize that we all are, just people…..we are all the same.

    Civic Holiday - (Simcoe Day)
    No Meeting

The first Monday in August is a holiday in Canada except in Québec, Newfoundland and the Yukon. Every other province and territory has their own name for it, depending on heritage and the political will at the time the holiday was created.
Canadian ceremonies and holidays such as Boxing Day and the August Civic Holiday (a "bank holiday") are derived from our British roots.
This national holiday is similar to Heritage Day. It gives everyone a break from work.

The work of Hasu Naik in India

Harlan used a presentation of the photos he took on a tour of Rotary sponsored projects in India. As usual his talk was down to earth and stimulating. He convinced his rotarian audience that their donation and fund raising dollars are being spent wisely.
Hasu has demonstrated what a committed Rotarian can do when the "Service above Self" model is taken to heart.

Carlos told his audience that there is little doubt that at least a mild economic downturn is developing driven by higher interest rates and higher oil prices. He said that his guess was that any recovery from this trend would not take place until late 2007. His forecast was gloomy for the Automotive Industry in Ontario and Particularly for Windsor where the industry was mostly based on the Big 3 car manufacturers. Scotia Capital is also predicting that the Canadian dollar will continue to strengthen in respect to the American dollar because of the continuing deficit spending in the United States.

Canada Day is Canada's national holiday.
It is a federal holiday celebrated on July 1, annually, by all provincial governments and most businesses across Canada.
Canada Day celebrates the creation of the dominion of Canada through the British North America Act on July 1, 1867, uniting three British territories - the Province of Canada (southern Ontario and southern Quebec), Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick - into a federation

On October 27, 1982, July 1st which was known as "Dominion Day" became "Canada Day".

Since 1985, Canada Day Committees are established in each province and territory to plan, organize and coordinate the Canada Day celebrations locally. Grants are provided by the Department to those committees.
