The mission of SciTech Exploratorium of Windsor is:

A group led by former City Councillor and science educator Tom Toth worked for many years to establish an interactive Science Centre/Museum in Windsor. A management team was established and the Board of Directors constituted. The City has now reviewed and agreed to the SciTech business plan and is now committed to providing a suitable site for an enlarged Exploratorium. The planned site selected is on Mercer street with a 4 to 4 month occupancy date.

Modern Science Centers are no longer just about bricks and mortar and exhibits. They are a local focus for an examination of technologies with increasingly shorter shelf lives - a place for reflection on the ongoing changes in the tools we use and the ethical considerations human beings assign to their way of living - a place where we may review the passing parade of ideas and software.
During this past century, we have become more aware of the relative insignificance of our solar system in an ordered, endless cosmos originating from some singularity that we speculate occurred billions of years in the past. Humanity has assumed more command over our life form's future on Earth through new powerful scientific tools. The question now is "will humanity be able to come together to manage these new scientific tools for a beneficial exploration of the universe without destroying itself in the process?".
Our future generations must deal with this issue and places like exploratoriums will provide our children with centers for observation and discussion.

    Co-Chair Mosquito Bomber Group Restoration
    The Canadian Historical Aircraft Association

The Mosquito Bomber (Click on the image to expand it)

The B.35 Bomber was made almost entirely of wood. It was similar to the B.XVI except for Merlin 114 engines in early versions, Merlin 114A engines in later versions, 274 built, including 65 by Airspeed Ltd.

Windsor and Essex County are rich in aviation culture and history: Windsor Flying Club is more than 50 years old; hundreds of vets trained at No.7 Elementary Flying Training School; dozens of grass airstrips exist in the County; Windsor Airport is historically important; aviation has affected thousands of local people in these past decades. We need an historical aviation centre/ museum.

Mike gave a dynamic talk on the history of the mosquito bomber. He spoke about the bomber's part in the mission to drop food to a starving Dutch population near the end of WW2 and its' role as a high speed, high altitude, versatile aircraft serving not only as a fighter bomber but also as a photo-reconaissance vehicle and a general transportation means.
This Dehavilland Mosquito restoration group has worked diligently to recover parts from around the world and to raise funds to support the project.
You can see the restoration in progress at the Windsor Airport where there is a museum room containing Mossie artifacts.
The restoration group would appreciate donations toward their efforts. Contact Tim Gillies at 1-519-735-1325 if you would like to help. Visit The Mosquito Page by the Mosquito Group, a Windsor based branch of the Canadian Historical Aircraft Association.

    Hydro Privatization
    Sean Conway (LIB - Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke)
Conway is the Ontario Liberal Energy Critic

"Now that the province has set a date for the deregulation of Ontario’s electricity marketplace, it’s time for the Harris government to tell Ontario consumers exactly what the changes will mean to them."
    1. How much will rates go up?
    2. What guarantees are there that Ontario’s deregulation won't result in the skyrocketing rates and power outages that have occurred elsewhere?
    3. What steps will the Harris government take to make Ontario Hydro’s successor companies more accountable?
    4. What consumer education programs will be put in place prior to deregulation?
Time To Shed Some Light On Electricity Deregulation, Conway Says

"Sir Adam Beck, who founded Hydro in 1906 to save consumers from being gouged by private power companies, would turn in his grave if he could see who's ensconced at Bruce Nuclear now: Bruce Power, a subsidiary of British Energy, itself a product of Thatcher-era privatizations in the U.K. The Conservative government has turned the eight reactors over to the dreaded private sector. And if Beck knew that even the province's transmission system, Hydro One, will be sold off in 2002, well, he might be spinning fast enough to generate a little electricity himself." ROB January, 2002 issue on Hydro Deregulation

A graduate of the University of Western Medical School, Dr. Schumacher has practiced as a family physician in Windsor since 1983. Dr. Schumacher is proud of his community and has been actively involved in not only health care issues but also many matters of concern to the people of Windsor.
His talk today consisted of a succinct presentation of the capabilities of modern medicine in enabling Canadians to live longer and more healthy lives. He said that a major health problem on this continent however, derives from our own disregard for bodily damages rendered through the habit of smoking and diseases worsened by environmental conditions existing in areas such as Windsor.
Dr. Schumacher spent the last half of his presentation on issues dealing with privacy matters in health care. He told his audience why they should be concerned about the wording in the upcoming privacy of Information Act. His analysis of the issues involved was well thought out and motivating.
