December 28th - Boxing Day Holiday - no meeting
[Boxing Day gets its name from the 19th century English custom of giving
boxes or money to servants and family. It used to be called St. Stephen's
Day.]
December 21st - Christmas Meeting
Our Christmas Dinner Meeting featured the
Salvation Army Band.
Santa made his annual visit direct from the Caribbean complete with
vacation clothes and golf clubs. He brought gifts for some special Rotarians
including a Paul Harris Fellowship for Scott McCrindle presented by Scott's
parents, Lex and Ann.
In keeping with the spirit of the season,
Windsor Rotarian
Mike Duval
was presented with a special award from the Ontario Easter Seals Society for
his ongoing efforts in support of the Society's programs.

Mike's coordinating expertise was featured in the
December 19, 1998 issue of
the Windsor Star ------->
A tearful Danielle Holmes, an 11 year
old young girl in a wheelchair, was presented with a new Chrysler MiniVan
complete with an automatic wheelchair lift.
This meeting also served as the annual General Meeting of
the club. The Christmas Party followed the General Meeting.
At the General Meeting we:
a) elected a Vice-President for the 1999 - 2000 year
b) elected four directors for a two year term commencing July 1, 1999
c) approved
the audited financial statements for the year ended June 30,
1998
d) appointed the auditors
e) performed other such business that the President wished to present

December 7th - Evening Meeting
Youth Exchange
Evening Program - Rotarian Neil Bear hosted a Youth Exchange
meeting which gave an opportunity for club members to meet our current
"inbounders",
Darshin Gokani,
Benjamin Lannoy and
Katherina Rau.
Several "rebounders" from the Student Exchange Program were also
present. The students formed a panel to answer questions from Rotarians
about their experiences while in the program. A common thread ran among the
responses: every student realized and appreciated the value of the program
- travel, culture, friendship.
November 30th - Brad Sanger of the Harrow Rotary Club spoke to us about
"Third World Education"

November 23rd - Stephen Brook spoke to us about the Rebuilding of South
Western Ontario's Wine Industry
Stephen Brook does CKLW's weekly wine feature called the Wine Rack
and is CBC Radio One's bi-weekly wine columnist on the Crosstown Show.
You may recognize him as Master of Ceremonies for the Essex County Wine Festival
or from freelance articles found in Opinion Magazine, Vintages Publications

November 22 - Caboto Club - 12:30pm to 3:00pm Easter
Seals Children's Christmas Party
One hundred and eighteen children plus parents and friends were fed and
entertained by Rotarians and a number of other friends of Rotary. Santa
arrived with presents to cap the afternoon's festivities at the Caboto Club.
November 16th - Dr Mary Louise Drake spoke to the club about
"Building Blocks For Better Babies",
a program funded by
Health Canada
designed to reduce the number of
low birth weight babies.
The university of Windsor's School of Nursing is a sponsoring agency of the Windsor
Essex Prenatal Nutrition Committee that offers the program locally.

The Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program is a comprehensive Program
designed to provide food supplementation, nutrition counselling, support,
education, referral and counselling on lifestyle issues to pregnant women
who are most likely to have unhealthy babies.
November 13th, 14th and 15th - Our fifth Winter Art-in-the-Park was held
at the Fogolar Furlan Club.
This Winter showing has been held in the Fogolar
Furlan Club buildings since its inception in 1993. It has become a popular
outlet for exhibition of the works of the region's artists. The
format is similar to the summer show with the exception that this
is an indoor display. Decorations enhanced the winter theme and
spirit.
November 9th - Robert Skipper shared his rememberences of his years in the European theatre during WW2 during our Rememberance Day ceremonies.
November 2nd - This is Your Life - Margaret Ann Prince brought us Rotarians Ed Boycott, John Kousik and Ann Price
October 26th - Dream Team Brainstorm - Paul Cassano directed an idea generating exercise involving all Rotarian meeting guests.
October 19th
Carole MacNeil of
CBC Newsworld was our guest. She
spoke about the "political reality" of reporting the news and the necessity
for divorcing "self" from news delivery.

John Toews, President of Personal Planning/Capital
Management Windsor, spoke to the club about "Real Financial Planning".
Sept 21
John Omstead, President of Family Tradition
Foods Inc., spoke to the club on the challenges in taking over a well
established production facility. He talked about instilling
Family Traditions core values of Respect, Integrity,
Responsiveness, Innovation and Synergy into the organization and
positioning of the company for growth.
September 19th and 20th
Children's
Fest 98 was greeted by perfect weather.
This was the 5th year for this event. Activities of
special interest to children were held in tents spread throughout the
Foglar Furlan Club grounds. Profits from this event are directed to
The Windsor Childrens Rehabilitation Center. About 15,000 people passed
through the gates over the weekend generating a gross revenue of about
$85,000.00
Sept 14
Sandra Kodis spoke about the Year
2000 computer problem. Her focus was on an explanation of the Y2K
problem and it's effect on Commerce, Manufacturing and Business as well
as management approaches to identification and resolutions to the
adherent problems. Sandra spoke later in the evening in more
detail on the same topic to a joint meeting of the
Society of
Manufacturing Engineers Chapter 55 and the
Canadian Information
Processing Society (Windsor Chapter).
August 31
Adelina Cecchin, a member of the
Group Study Exchange
Team who travelled to Japan last spring, provided a slide
demonstration of her experience. Adelina discussed much of the
culture and day to day activities of the Japanese. She
entertained a number of questions and, in particular, that
Ontario may be more advanced from an education standpoint than in
