Windsor Rotary Club (1918)
C.P.R. Day Page
Our Club is located in Windsor Ontario Canada
Our Annual CPR Day was last offered on Saturday April 20th, 2003
at St. Clair
College
The event was called off in 2003 after 20 years due to a number of complicating factors, most noteably, the fear produced in 2003 of an impending Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) epidemic.
The Annual CPR Day at St Clair College
has been cancelled.
It is with regret that your local service club Health Committee came to a decision to no longer offer this free "Health Day". The Doctors who were the primary motivators in establishing and staffing the event either passed away or, due to age, were no longer in physical shape to continue the venture. Younger replacements could not be found.
We also experienced increasing difficulty in finding qualified CPR trainers who were willing to donate their time to the event.
CPR Courses are available through the College
Welcome to the C.P.R. Day Page. For the past twenty years the
Windsor Rotary (1918) club has hosted, in conjunction with the Lions Club,
the C.P.R. Instructors of Windsor, St. Clair College, and the Heart and
Stroke Foundation of Ontario, an annual free C.P.R. Training Day. The event
was scripted as a promotional affair to encourage local citizens to learn
the "Heart Saver" technique. Over 3000 Essex County residents have taken
this heart saver course since it was initiated in 1982.
The C.P.R. course was run each year on a Saturday in April or May at St
Clair College in two and one half hour sessions. Participants not only actively learned the physical C.P.R. and Heimlich Maneuver techniques in the gymnasium, but also received classroom lectures on healthy styles of living. In addition, representatives from various health related groups were invited to set up free health testing clinics at tables in the college lobby area. Participants could check their blood sugar, oxygen take-up, cholesterol and heart pressure while waiting for their classes to start.
CPR Day also offered awareness training on Automated External Defibrillation (A.E.D.) at the conclusion of each CPR session.
Quick use of defibrillators in treating heart attack victims can double a patient’s survival rate.
Defibrillators are being placed in many public facilities and the public needs to learn how to use them.
