National Essay Competition in India
Topic: ‘Adopt the Rotary 4-Way Test in your life to eliminate corruption.'
First Year Report for Rotary Year 2005-2006
- About 13,000 mailers were sent for about 13,000 schools to Rotary Clubs (5 per Rotary Club for 5 schools in its area). Website www.rotary1918.com has pamphlet, brochure, consent form etc that comprised this mailer.
- Winners at the school level competition entered the Rotary Club level, winners at the Rotary Club level entered the Rotary District level and winners at the District level entered the National level.
- (Eighteen) Rotary International (RI) Districts participated. List of these Districts will be published on our club website www.rotary1918.com
- 15 National winners were selected from 49 District level winners this month. Lists of winners at the District and National levels will also be published on our club website.
- Each winner at the District level will receive cash awards from the school, club and district level competitions. Each winner at the National level will receive cash awards from the school, club, district and national level competitions.
- Each winner at the District level will also receive a silver medal of 30 grams engraved with the Rotary 4-Way Test. Each winner at the National level will receive two silver medals of 30 grams and 50 grams engraved with Rotary 4-Way Test and Rotary motto ‘Service above Self’.
- Past District Governor (PDG) Jim Ives and DG James Karolyi are writing to all 28 RI District Governors and the Awards Administrator PDG S.R. Yogananda in India congratulating them on the successful completion of the first year of this 5-year project. Centennial Governor Jim Ives's beautiful letter is also there on our club’s website www.rotary1918.com .
- President Peter Hrastovec is writing to congratulate all Principals whose students won District Awards. He is also writing to the Club Presidents to congratulate them for these 49 winners from their club areas.
- President Hrastovec is also sending certificates to all 49 winners of District level.
- Rotarian Jim Moore, Chair World Community Service, is writing congratulatory letters to the 49 winners.
EXPENSES:
- Each participating Rotary Club in India spent about $40 dollars (if 3 schools from its area participated).
- Mr. J.K. Chandna spent about $3,000 dollars for the stationery, printing and mailing of about 13,000 mailers.
- Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) sent $10,000 to Awards Administrator PDG Yogananda for cash awards and silver medals at District and National levels.
PROJECTED DETAILS (When the project is fully developed)
- We estimate 13,000 schools will participate, and with that, approximately four million children will learn about the Rotary 4-Way Test each year.
- Rotary Clubs in India will spend about $100,000 each year. J.K. Chandna will spend about $3,000 and Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) and RI District 6400 will spend about $11,000 each year.
